Smalti runs on macOS. The first release build is not published yet; until it is, build it from source. Windows and iOS versions are in development.

macOS

Requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later.

Download for macOS

No release has been published yet. The button will link to the first build when it is.

  1. Unzip Smalti-<version>-macOS.zip and move Smalti.app to /Applications.
  2. Open it and confirm Keep Smalti running in the background. The app includes smaltid and the Conductor, so there is nothing else to install.
  3. See Getting started for the first steps.

To update, replace the app with the new version. Your layout and cache are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/Smalti and are not affected.

Build from source

With a Swift 6 toolchain and access to the repository:

git clone <repository URL> smalti
cd smalti
swift build -c release
.build/release/Smalti

Windows coming soon

A native WPF port built on .NET 8. It reads the same transcript format as the Mac app and has the same panel types, sidebar and graph.

iPhone and iPad coming soon

For iOS and iPadOS 18 or later. It connects to your own computers over SSH, normally through Tailscale, lists their sessions, and opens terminals on them inside tmux so they survive dropped connections. See Remote hosts.
